that design is wild!! must have taken hours and hours with the tools used.(im a tattoo artist and it takes long enough with a tattoo machine) the end result is beautiful & and so is preserving ones culture.
Allot of tradition in this video. The song of the Tatau is also an important part of getting the Pe’a. I sing this song often, it sometimes tears me up. Gosh I miss Samoa so much. Thanks for this video my friend. Faafetai lava, manuia le aso.
the man stays with the children and cook while the woman hunts for the food lol sounds backwards to me lol
(watch sum1z finna say fuk u sione ahahahah)
The samoan tattooist rule is “before you give the pain out to others (give a tattoo), you have to learn to take it, so essentially you gotta get a tatau before you can give one out. That way, you know how much pain the person is gng through in certain parts of the body, and can determine when to take breaks when to hit soft.
I agree with you wholeheartedly, and forgive my comments regarding broken english, i was referring to the slang terms so commonly used amongst islanders who have been brought up outside of the islands. I know many of them and am friends with many of them, but sadly their grasp of english in not much better than their grasp of Samoan, which kind of leaves them in a nowhere place as far as culture goes, or perhaps a sub culture. Not that it is a huge issue, merely an observation.
The upshot of the latter was the tatau being stretched every which way as the boy grew into a man. Now I see that tufuga are springin up in NEw Zealand who are noy instructed ina traditional sense and this is to mymind quite appalling and probably worse than tufuga commercialisng it. IMHO
Please excuse typos I’m not arsed when it comes to spellcheck. That sadi I remember when I was in Samoa that there was alot of discontent over the tattoing of the tatau on a woman and head scratching over the tattoing of a boy who was not even in his teens.
