Verizon, like a lot of other phone companies, locks down its phones so that customers have to pay extra for services, like buying extra ringtones. You can unlock the phone, however, and reclaim the functionality that the phone manufacture intended. Specifically with the Razr, once the phone is unlocked you can add ringtones and pictures to the phone, retrieve the pictures, video, and audio recordings taken on the phone, use the phone as a fee (when regular phone calls are free) source of internet for your laptop on the road, and more.
