The guy who is apprenticing me said this yesterday “If it sounds like a jackhammer, it will feel like one”. Ha… This video just reminded me of that. (Not saying it sounded bad)

practice skin isnt always the best if your willing to fork over some cash buy a small chicken or grapefruits although grapefruits have a really different end result when you practice on them not really my thing never did like using grapefruits. practice makes perfect everyone this is an artform thats always growing theres no 1 tattoo artist out there that knows everything each artist all have there own way of doing certain things stay positive dont get discouraged practice practice!

get used to stretching the skin wiether its with both hands or with your thumb and index finger depending on your dominant hand it with strengthen your hands as well if your a beginner tattoo your hands will be sore on larger sized tattoos and as tony86in said definatly a good idea to attach a pen or pencil to your machine first get used to the weight of the machine and even start at the bottom of your drawing and work up as if it were a real tattoo!

To get a bit more speed for your liner, place an elastic band under your front spring. Pull it over the front binding post, & back down under the front spring or under the nipple. This works great on the $20 chinese machines, with their weak springs.

basicall just build you confidence from drawing. attach your machine to a pencil and practice tracing lines. it will give you a feel of how to handle your machine. nothing you tatoo is going to compare to actual skin so be brave and sacrifice a leg. that is what i did in my apprenticeship. start out simple and be confident. best to fork over cash and get a formal apprenticship though. this is if you can find one.

agree with everything except, the voltage varies from machine to machine, my v4 runs on 1.8v for lining, but like i said voltage doesnt really matter as long as the machine is setup correctly

So then what would you suggest ? Grapefruits? Turkey breasts ? Pig ears ?
I have tried grapefruits and practice skin and although the grapefruits seemed good because of texture, the shape is not realistic for the most part.

dont listen to the haters. your videos are nice
December 20th, 2009 at 5:48 am
i don’t see why not. try asking your parents about what you think about doing first… Just don’t tattoo your friends or yourself and you should be fine. Tattooing is just another medium of art .. a way to express your feelings , so if you feel its what your passion is then go for it bro.!!!
