liners tend to be smaller and lighter in general, but a good way to tell the diff is by spring lengths. liners have a shorter front spring while the shader springs are longer. this is the reason why the contact posts are needed to be at diffferent angles

i bought a kit wit an outliner and a shader machine how do i tell the difference one of the contact screws is going back at an angle towards the machine then the other

by the sounds of it your not going deep enough with the needle. your either not holding it to the skin close enough or you have the needle set to high ( so the needle isnt actually coming out of the chamber enough), the needle should be showing form the end of the chanber by about 1/ 16th of an inch while it is off

for greywash i mix my ink with greensoap. you can do it with witch hazel, you can also buy pre mixed greywash (kuro sumi for example) but in my opinion its still too dark
February 7th, 2010 at 4:08 pm
if you mean graywash? by lighter colors your adding witchazel
February 7th, 2010 at 4:59 pm
I think it’s done by the pressure enforced on the needle, not so much by adding water. I’m not sure though… that’s only from what I have observed.
February 7th, 2010 at 5:30 pm
So you get the lighter shades of black by adding water to the ink or is it an other kind of ink?
February 7th, 2010 at 6:15 pm
