This book is a great addition to any library. I found it refreshing to see someone shed some light into the secretive life of the tattoo artist, which unfortunately is a “no no” for the tattoo world. I agree with the author whole heartedly that knowledge should be shared no matter what the subject matter may be, otherwise how is it to be improved? I found the tattoo information to be accurate and useful and I loved his comment “A book does not make a cook” nor does a tattoo book make a tattoo artist BUT it is nice to have such an in depth and down to earth peek inside the technical aspect of the artform, as well as some good information on what to do and not to do while tattooing. The only thing I would change about the book is it’s cover, I would have loved to see a cool tattoo design from the author/artist here. They say you can’t judge a book by it’s cover and with this one it is so true. BUY THIS BOOK you will learn something and enjoy the information. The author talks to you, not down to you and I find that rather refreshing.

I found this book to be very useful. I has a lot of information that I use on a daily basis working as a full time tattooer.

There just aren’t many comprehensive guides to tattooing that are worth a darn, but this has been one of the best I’ve seen so far. He seems very frank and down-to-earth in his approach. The section on breaking down your machine and function of each individual part was very beneficial to me. Everything is clearly explained in layman’s terms. I did find myself pondering about his political affiliation with some of the text clips and asatru quotes, but who cares really? The point is, this book was very useful and has helped me get a better understanding of my machine, commonly used techniques, etc. I also like how it dispells some of the myths of learning to tattoo. I would recommend it to the beginner or apprentice as required reading. You can teach people HOW to tattoo, but they will only BE tattoo artists if they immerse themselves in the art. The only section that seemed to be lacking a bit was on sterilization. However, he stresses that you must check with your local board of health in order to be 100% sure of the state-to-state requirements. I would have liked to see more tips on keeping your workstation sterile. Overall, this book was great and kudos to this guy for having the cojones to write it.

another tattoo book
this is an ok reference material, provided that you already know a little bit about tattooing and work under someone’s supervision.

The trade manual, as mentioned in the book, is the greatest that I have read so far. He writes his thoughts down as if he is speaking directly to you, which made me at first to read on. It explains alot of history on the art of tattooing which you will rarely ever get that as an apprentice. Now for the little guys. For all you guys like me who have a real hard time finding someone to take you on as an apprentice and take pride in handing you down his secrets, then this manual is for you. Its for the little guy that wants to take the next step in the art of tattooing. Also the fact that your teacher, should you get one, will never make you take notes while learning, in which case I disagree! With this book, taking notes is very minimal, its all pretty much covered, and in great detail as well. Mine is completely covered in high lighter, side notes, and order of omportance. I cant stress to you enough how helpful this manual is and the fact that it takes all of the guess work out of the subject, which is what we need. All this and Mr. Alayon is a very good person, who obviously is not caring about the buck, but is caring about a young tattoo artists’ mind set and well being. Thanks for such a great book!
happy tatting!

Great for the beginner
I ordered all three of his books, and they are very informative. He goes into detail of everything you need to do, as well as things you shouldn’t do.
