Sticky Light – the smart laser scanner revisited

A laser spot bounces on a figure being drawn on paper, trying to escape the labyrinth of lines. There is no camera nor projector; this is an experience where the audience can touch and interact with a beam of pure light – and even play a pong game with bare hands. The quality of the laser light, and the fluidity of the motion makes for a very unique experience. The piece is based upon a 3d tracking technology developed earlier in our lab, using a laser diode, a pair of steering mirrors, and a single non-imaging photodetector called the “smart laser scanner”. I have posted the first treatment session as well, so if you browse my videos you will see the first treatment session and be able to compare the first to the second. This is an amateur tattoo in black ink. Even after the first session, there has already been significant fading. Because it’s the second treatment, you don’t see as much whitening of the tattoo. The whitening occurs when there is more ink and the ink is closer to the surface of the skin. He reports some pain (5 out of 10). The laser tattoo removal was performed using a q-switched 1064nm laser, the fastest tattoo removal laser on the market, the C6 Hoya Conbio.
